Once the front plate was fitted, I could then determine where the front screws were going
to contact the back plate. They meet the backplate at an angle, so with a bit of fiddling
and some careful measuring, the two holes were drilled and tapped in the plate.

They, of course, lined up perfectly. :)

Tip: The drill chuck is holding a tapping point- it's basically just a bar of hardened 3/8" steel,
with a 60-degree point ground on one end. After the holes were pilot-drilled, the drill was replaced
with the tapping point. The point indexes to the centerdrilled hole in the back of the tap handle,
and makes sure the tap is then held straight and concentric to the freshly-drilled hole.
