Warping the Feed on a Double Automag, Part 2:

Warped Magz

After the filing, very careful use of some air sanders and fine-grade sandpaper
smooth things down to the point where it can be hand-sanded.

Warped Magz

More tedium in the form of hand wet-sanding with various grits of wet/dry sandpaper.
I wet-sand to both keep the dust down (you shouldn't breathe stainless steel dust)
and it makes the paper last longer as it doesn't clog.

It usually takes at least two full sheets to finish a single body,
each torn into small strips of about 1" x 3".

Warped Magz

A quick preliminary pass through the buffer to see how the finish is progressing,
and it's now time to... do it all over again on the other body. :)

Warped Magz

With the bodies finally fully sanded and mostly polished, we now locate and redrill the feed ports.

Warped Magz

Make sure both are well deburred, and it's back to the welding table.

Warped Magz

For this mod, I made myself a quick fixture to help hold the feed necks in place.

Warped Magz

A bar slides in from the barrel end, and a stem bolts on and indexes into the first rod. The feed neck
slides over the stem and the whole thing is held together with a bit of allthread, a washer and a nut.

Warped Magz

With everything in place and our measurements double-checked, each one is carefully TIG welded in place.
A short seam as shown is more than strong enough- trying to weld all the way around is
unnecessary, and would wind up warping the body again.

Warped Magz

A quick trip through the polisher cleans up the oxidation.

Warped Magz

Now, with the modified feeds, standard twist-lock barrels will no longer work in these bodies,
so the customer ordered two of my AutoMag Barrel Adapters, which in this case
had to be specially fitted to the 90-degree-feed bodies.

Warped Magz

And done! Polished up and ready to wreak some havoc! :)
